Why have committees?
Committees serve a vital role in the SGA organization. The function of a committee is to: investigate campus policies; draft, review and amend legislation; and perform duties specific to its topic. Most meet weekly to discuss issues currently concerning students. Please click on one of the links above for more information.
Academic Affairs
Chair:
Jamil Scott
The purpose of the Academic Affairs Committee is to provide oversight on all matters of academic policy at the University and business of the University Senate in the interest of the student body. They also work on initiatives including but not limited to: the academic first look fair, the student faculty dinner, and textbook pricing.

Campus Affairs
Chair:
The purpose of the Campus Affairs Committee is to provide general oversight on issues of concern to the student body including University policies and campus issue such as residential, transportation, dining and environmental issues.

Finance
Chair:
David Berlin
The purpose of the Finance Committee is to fairly and equitably distribute the Student Activities Fee in a manner consistent with the rules and regulations of the Finance Process and the stated goals and objectives of the SGA.

Governmental Affairs

The Governmental Affairs Committee is responsible for determining student concerns and needs with regards to local, state, and federal governmental policies and issues that affect the undergraduate members of the student body.

Programming and Traditions
Chair:
Bill Braun
The Programming and Traditions Committee is charged with implementing annual SGA programs, developing new events and furthering pride and tradition at the University of Maryland. The department's programs include but are not limited to Crab Fest, Wild & Crazy Terps Field Day, UNIV class presentations, and Spring Barbecue!

Residential Affairs
Chair:
The residential affairs committee is in charge of providing action and developing initiatives on all University policies and procedures affecting campus resident and to provide outreach to campus residents.

Student Sustainability
Chair:
Michelle Kim
The Student Sustainability Committee is charged with developing initiatives on all University policies and procedures affecting the environment, global stewardship, and sustainability. The committee works with the Office of Sustainability and works toward implementing the campus climate action plan. The committee's website is umdstudentsustainability.com

Student Group Affairs
Chair:
Jimmy Gray
The purpose of the student group affairs committee is to work with student groups and provide them with information and resources available through the SGA. The department also provides oversight for student groups on issues of constitutional structure and ethical practice and shall have authority over the student group recognition process as detailed by the SGA By-Laws.

Communications

The Communications Committee is responsible for promoting awareness of the activities, resources, and responsibilities of the SGA among the student body, providing publicity for SGA sponsored events and other important campus occurrences, and performing student outreach projects.
