1. WHEREAS, the purpose of the Student Government Association (SGA) includes promoting and governing the activities and welfare of the students of the College Park campus; and,

2. WHEREAS, student groups are important to student’s experiences while they are at the University of Maryland and as a result it is important that the leaders of these organization receive direction, professional training, and help with recruitment, retention, and programming; and,

3. WHEREAS, the purpose of O.N.E. UMD Conference is to Organize, Network, and Empower student leaders, and seeks to provide proper training for successful programs and for successful student organizations; and,

4. WHEREAS, the O.N.E. UMD Conference is an annual event sponsored by the Adele H. Stamp Student Union, Maryland Alumni Association, University of Career Center and The President’s Promise, and the SGA; and,

5. WHEREAS, the Adele H. Stamp Student Union, Maryland Alumni Association, and University of Career Center and The President’s Promise have already made a permanent commitment to sponsor this event for its duration; and,

6. WHEREAS, the first program was held in February 2008 as part of an SGA service initiative; and,

7. WHEREAS, the SGA has continued to fund the O.N.E. UMD Conference yearly and has remained a key supporter of the program; and,

8. WHEREAS, the SGA is invited each year to talk with student leaders in all aspects of campus life; and,

9. WHEREAS, the majority of the leaders who attended said that it was a useful program and would like to see it occur again in future years; and,

10. WHEREAS, each year a new piece of legislation must be written in order to show SGA support; and,

11. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the O.N.E. UMD Conference be incorporated into the by-laws as an annually sponsored and funded SGA event; and,

12. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED this change in the by-laws will take effect immediately.
