An Act Funding a Community Garden on the Roof of the North Campus Diner
1. WHEREAS, the Student Government Association is dedicated to cultivating a culture of awareness about environmental sustainability at the University of Maryland; and,
2. WHEREAS, the University is striving to be “recognized as a national model for a Green University” (as stated in the Strategic Plan, Part 3, Critical Enablers, Infrastructure and Academic Support); and,
3. WHEREAS, the University recognizes the importance of locally grown food in the University's Climate Action Plan; and,
4. WHEREAS, an on campus roof top community garden creates a hands-on experience for members of the University community yearning to learn how to grow their own food in an urban environment; and,
5. WHEREAS, the facilities staff of the North Campus Diner has generously offered the roof of the North Campus Diner as a space for a community garden at the University of Maryland;
6. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that $2,500 be transferred from Legislative Reserves to Dining Services in order to fund seeds, tools, building materials, and aesthetic creations for the garden on the roof of the North Campus Diner; and,
